Pella vs JELD-WEN Windows: Price & Value Compared (2026)

Pella vs JELD-WEN is one of the few brand comparisons where both sides have a real price. Pella publishes its own typical installed cost per window by frame material. JELD-WEN's V-2500 and V-4500 vinyl windows are stocked at Home Depot and Lowe's, and our September 2026 census priced them from $196–$658 per unit (median, by line and style).

The two figures measure different things. Pella's is installed, and JELD-WEN's is the window alone, so this page adds the installation step explicitly rather than comparing the raw numbers. For a whole-project estimate, use the window replacement cost calculator.

How this estimate is calculated

$509–$1,600 per window installed, from BLS wages and the FRED price index

Based on BLS, FRED & EIA data

Labor, weatherproofing and price escalation come from federal data. The base material cost does not — and we say so below rather than rounding it into the same sentence. Reference window: standard vinyl double-hung, retrofit install.

Labor
2 man-hrs (NREL/Craftsman) × $29/hr national carpenter wage (BLS OEWS, SOC 47-2031) × 2.84 contractor markup = $165
Materials
Vinyl frame + Low-E glass, escalated 4.9% since 2025 by the FRED producer price index. The base cost this escalates is not independently sourced — it is the largest single term in the estimate and the one we cannot yet cite. Retail listings for the products named in our tiers put a comparable unit at $284–$379, which brackets it. How we are trying to close that.
Weatherproofing
$20–$35 per opening — flashing tape, foam, backer rod and caulk, priced per opening rather than as a percentage of the window (DuPont GREAT STUFF)
Installed cost
$509–$1,600 per window installed — the low end is buying the window and hiring an installer, the high end is a full-service replacement company. Both are installed prices; they are different markets, roughly 2× apart. · $5,090–$16,000 for a 10-window project (before bulk discount)

“Shelf” is the retail price of the window alone at Home Depot or Lowe’s — not installed — from our Google Shopping census, checked 2026-09-08. Pella figures are Pella’s own published installed cost by frame material (not by product line), checked 2026-09-07. Where no company publishes a price we say so rather than estimate one.

Putting them on the same footing

To compare a JELD-WEN unit with Pella's installed vinyl figure, add installation. Our cost model puts insert installation of a double-hung at $185 to $200 per opening, from BLS carpenter wages and a weatherproofing materials line. A JELD-WEN V-2500 double-hung (Shelf $228–$816, median $379 (9 listings)) plus that labor line is the figure to set against Pella's $800–$1,600 installed vinyl band.

Two caveats. Pella's figure is by frame material, not by product line, and it does not say whether removing the old frame is included. A shelf price is a standard size, and a custom-measured replacement window from a dealer is a different product. Our installation labor cost guide breaks down the labor side.

Pella groups its warranties by material family, and the table above follows Pella's own grouping. For JELD-WEN we list only the two vinyl lines our census found and priced at Home Depot and Lowe's. JELD-WEN makes other windows, but we have no published price or readable spec for them, so we do not describe them here.

We could not verify JELD-WEN's current warranty. Its website blocks automated reading, and the only JELD-WEN warranty documents we could retrieve date from 2009 and 2014, too old to quote. Before you buy, ask for the current warranty document for the exact product and check two things: whether labor is covered, and what happens to coverage when you sell the home.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose JELD-WEN if:

  • Budget drives the decision. Its big-box vinyl lines are priced on the shelf, and you can check them before anyone visits.
  • You have an installer and standard-size openings. A stocked unit plus your installer's labor is the simplest path.

Choose Pella if:

  • You want fiberglass or wood. Pella publishes installed figures for both; our census found JELD-WEN's big-box lines only in vinyl.
  • You want an installed price from the manufacturer. Pella is the one brand here that publishes a typical installed cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pella better than JELD-WEN?
They sell at different price points and, on paper, very different ways. JELD-WEN's V-2500 and V-4500 vinyl windows are stocked at Home Depot and Lowe's with a shelf price you can read. Pella publishes an installed price by frame material and also sells at Lowe's, with the same warranty as from a Pella store. If you are comparing vinyl to vinyl, the question is whether Pella's installed vinyl figure is worth it against a JELD-WEN unit plus installation. The tables on this page put those numbers side by side.
How much do JELD-WEN windows cost?
In our September 2026 census of Google Shopping, JELD-WEN's vinyl windows had shelf medians of $196–$658 per unit at Home Depot and Lowe's, depending on line and style. That is the window alone. Our cost model adds $185 to $200 to install a double-hung by insert.
How much do Pella windows cost installed?
Pella publishes its own typical installed cost by frame material: $800–$1,600 per window for vinyl, $1,100–$2,200+ for fiberglass and $1,100–$2,200+ for wood. Pella does not break that down by product line.
What is the difference between JELD-WEN V-2500 and V-4500?
Both are vinyl lines sold at big-box stores, and the V-4500 sits higher on price. In our census a V-2500 single-hung had a median shelf price of $239 single-hung, against $658 single-hung for a V-4500.
Is the Pella warranty the same at Lowe's?
Yes. Pella states that product bought at Lowe's "is the same product and has the same warranty" as product bought from a Pella store. Pella's warranties cover labor for the first two years, and lifetime coverage, where a warranty includes it, applies to the original purchaser in an owner-occupied single-family home.
What warranty does JELD-WEN offer?
We could not verify JELD-WEN's current warranty terms: its website blocks automated reading, and the only JELD-WEN warranty documents we could retrieve date from 2009 and 2014. Ask the retailer or installer for the current warranty for the exact JELD-WEN product you are quoted, and check whether it covers labor and what happens if you sell the home.
